Staying on the Wall

Nehemiah 6:1-4 gives us an example of the spiritual warfare that we as Christians face on a daily basis in our attempt to stay on the wall. The text tells us now it came to pass, when Sandballat, Tobiah, and Geshem, the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builted the wall and there was no breach left therein;(though at the time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;) that Sandballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying come, let us meet together in {some one of} the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.

In this text the walls represent Gods salvation that protects his people, Sandballat, Tobiah, and Geshem represent the enemies that we face daily while striving to be obedient to the will of our father. The word Ono deals with strength, ability and wealth.

So in essence our adversary summons us daily to come down off the wall, our strength, our protection into his strength that he may be mischievous to us!

When the enemy summons you to come down off the wall into Ono his strength, our response must be, I cannot come down for I am doing a great work. Time after time he may continue to send for you; but stay on the wall in His strength that God may be glorified through you!!!

We must learn how to stay on the wall in every aspect of our life!
